Just as with other state, Idaho expects students to complete a CNA training program. These programs consist of 120 hours, 40 of which are clinical hours (to be completed on a job site). Once a person has completed these hours they can take the 2 part CNA exam. Nursing students in Idaho (who have completed at least one semester of nursing school) can opt to just take the test and skip the training hours. Once a person has accomplished this, they will achieve a certificate.

In Idaho, CNA’s are unlicensed personnel. They are referred to as UAP’s, or Unlicensed Assistive Personnel. Idaho CNA are required to work under the supervision of a registered nurse at all times. The state of Idaho has a set of laws a nurse must follow about what types of duties they can defer to a UAP and what types of duties they cannot.

Idaho CNA Reciprocity

If you are already hold CNA certification in another state, and wish to work as a CNA in Idaho, you can contact the Idaho State Nurse Aide Registry for forms in order to apply for certification. If you are current in your own state it should be a matter of some simple paperwork to add Idaho to the states you may work in as a CNA. If you are not current on your own state certificate, but are in good standing, you may be cleared to simply take the state test. This would allow you to quickly achieve certification if you are able to pass the 2 part test.
